Glasgow rail disruption is expected this weekend, with Lanarkshire engineering works set to change services on key routes from Glasgow Central. Passengers are being urged to allow extra time and check journeys before travelling on Sunday, June 7.

Glasgow rail disruption on routes from Central

The work is due to take place between Uddingston and Holytown, affecting two routes from Glasgow Central. On the ScotRail engineering works page, the operator says some services will be severely disrupted, cancelled or reduced while parts of the network are closed for engineering activity.

For passengers using the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh route via Shotts, trains will not run over the full journey. Services will operate only between Carfin and Edinburgh, so anyone starting from Glasgow Central will need to use rail replacement buses between Glasgow Central and Shotts.

Rail replacement buses and reduced services

The Motherwell and Lanark line will also run differently on the day. ScotRail said only an hourly service will operate between Glasgow Central and Lanark, leaving passengers on that route with longer gaps between trains.

Trains between Uddingston and Motherwell will not stop at Bellshill. The same arrangement is shown in the National Rail engineering works notice, which says buses will run between Uddingston and Motherwell, calling at Bellshill.

ScotRail said engineering work would take place “between Uddingston and Holytown/Motherwell, closing some lines.” It also advised passengers to plan ahead using its app or website, as journeys may take longer.
