Georgia intends to acquire 10 new mainline three-section electric locomotives, 3ES6, manufactured by the Ural Locomotives plant, a part of the Sinara Group, reported by the news portal on railway transport, Railway Supply, with reference to tzdjournal.

Under the $68 million contract (184 million lari), which includes not only locomotive delivery but also full technical maintenance and spare parts supply for 30 months, the locomotives are expected to be delivered within a year of contract signing.

These electric locomotives, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a power of 9900 kW, are designed for transporting trains weighing at least 1380 tons on the Tbilisi-Marabda-Akhaltsikhe route.

The Sinara Group continues to actively export its products abroad, despite the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, including to Kazakhstan, where 24 locomotives and 124 units of track equipment have been sent.

In addition, plans for opening service centers in 2024 have been announced, and a recent contract was signed for the supply of 6 shunting locomotives to Uzbekistan.

The financing of this project raises questions, especially if it involves funds from the EIB or other Western financial organizations, considering the current situation…

It is likely that Ural Locomotives and the Sinara Group are not yet under sanctions…
