The new hydrogen trains will operate on Berlin-Brandenburg’s Heidekrautbahnline, saving 1.1 million liters of diesel fuel annually. Water vapor is the only by-product of the advanced hydrogen fuel cells, ensuring sustainable energy use.
Innovations of the First Mireo Plus H Hydrogen Trains
The First Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains feature advanced propulsion, enabling up to 1,200 kilometers of operation per charge. They reach top speeds of 160 km/h, making them ideal for modern travel needs.
Additionally, Bavaria’s plan to phase out diesel trains by 2040 will benefit from these environmentally friendly trains. Test operations start in December 2024, with gradual network expansions in East Allgäu-Lechfeld and Ammersee-Altmühltal.
In East Brandenburg, Siemens Mobility introduces 31 Mireo Plus B battery-electric trains to reduce diesel use by 4.4 million liters annually. These trains eliminate local CO2 emissions, offering wheelchair accessibility, bike storage, and WiFi for enhanced passenger experience.
Siemens Mobility’s commitment to sustainability extends to the Danube-Isar network, where 25 Desiro HC and six Mireo trains improve connectivity. Similarly, Regensburg-Danube Valley will feature 21 Mireo trains on key routes, including the Airport Express from Nuremberg to Munich.
These advancements highlight the company’s drive to innovate sustainable rail systems, ensuring a greener future for German transportation networks.
