ES3000 at InnoTrans 2026 will headline the Express Service OOD display in Berlin before the battery locomotive travels directly to Warsaw for Polish company CEMET.

Battery Shunting Locomotive ES3000 Unveiled at InnoTrans 2024

Bulgarian locomotive manufacturer Express Service OOD will attend InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin from 22 to 25 September. The company will occupy two Outdoor Display locations, T2/65 and O2/70, where visitors can inspect the ES3000 and discuss its use in industrial shunting operations.

ES3000 will travel from Berlin to Warsaw

The locomotive displayed in Berlin has been built for CEMET. It will travel directly to Warsaw after InnoTrans for handover to the Polish customer. Visitors will therefore see a machine intended for commercial service rather than a demonstration prototype.

ES3000 technical specifications

Express Service developed the ES3000 for heavy shunting at industrial plants, ports, terminals, repair depots and logistics facilities. Its principal specifications are:

  • mass: 48 tonnes;
  • power: 90 kW;
  • maximum shunting load: 3,000 tonnes;
  • battery capacity: 220 kWh;
  • full charging time: about 5.5 hours;
  • expected battery life: more than 1,800 cycles;
  • maximum speed: 10 km/h.

A heavier version can weigh 50 tonnes and move loads of up to 4,000 tonnes at low speed. The gearing and traction system prioritise high starting tractive effort and repeated shunting cycles within confined industrial sites.

Battery traction for industrial operations

Express Service designs, manufactures, repairs and modernises locomotives at its plant in Ruse, Bulgaria. It has developed battery traction products since 2005. Its locomotives are used at repair depots, factories, ports, container terminals and logistics centres.

Battery power allows the machines to work inside buildings and at sites seeking lower emissions, noise and maintenance requirements. Express Service says electricity for one working shift can cost no more than €10. Actual consumption depends on the load, operating intensity, shift duration and site conditions.

Available features include programmable motor control, remote operation, integration with a train’s pneumatic braking system and liquid cooling for traction motor controllers.

Express Service expands international deliveries

The manufacturer’s battery locomotives already operate in Bulgaria, France, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and other countries. The CEMET-bound ES3000 gives InnoTrans visitors an opportunity to inspect a customer locomotive before it continues to Poland.
