Experience a Magical Train Ride Through Colorado’s Stunning Autumn Landscapes
19.10.2024
A train ride on the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway reveals Colorado’s stunning autumn scenery. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Autumn has arrived at higher elevations across the United States, and soon the vibrant colors of fall foliage will delight the eyes. A train ride on the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is a unique opportunity to witness the autumn scenery of Colorado.
The Ultimate Train Ride Through Colorado’s Pristine Landscapes
This train is unlike regular locomotives because it uses a cog system, or gear, which, as Railfan explains, “interlocks with the teeth of a rack rail laid between the running rails.” This mechanism helps the locomotive maintain traction even on steep slopes, where regular wheels might slip. Thanks to this system, the train climbs to over 14,000 feet, making it the highest railway in the U.S.
The route travels through some of the most pristine natural landscapes in the country, such as Pike National Forest, which turns golden and red in autumn thanks to Rocky Mountain maples and aspens, standing out against the emerald pines, some of which are over 2,000 years old. In addition, this railway is one of only two cog railways in the U.S., making a journey on it truly unique. The ride spans nine miles, and along the way, travelers can observe not only stunning plant life.
Passengers often spot wildlife like elk, deer, and yellow-bellied marmots. Additionally, Pikes Peak is home to one of Colorado’s largest herds of bighorn sheep. Upon reaching the summit, visitors can step off the train, take in the magnificent view, and visit the new visitor center to learn more about the mountain and the train’s history. For adventurers, there’s the option to hike or bike down the 13-mile Barr Trail.
The train runs several times daily, with ticket prices starting at $59 for adults and $49 for children. Reserve your seat now at cograilway.com.
