European leasing company VTG has launched a modular solutions business model based on a m2 modular freight car project

According to VTG (the fleet of wagons – 94 thousand units), the m2 platform available for leasing assumes a wide “customization” for the customer. In addition to using a platform for containers, it is possible to install bodies for the transportation of various goods: metallurgical products, timber and bulk cargo, infroms railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the magazine “Technics of Railways”.

For the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products, the company has its own fleet of 9 thousand tank containers. Also, the wagon has the ability for choosing the length (from 10.6 to 22.6 m), wheelsets, brake and coupling devices.

The m2 wagon was jointly developed by VTG with the carrier DB Cargo and presented in autumn 2020. It was planned to complete the certification of rolling stock in 2021.

As the senior project manager of VTG Rail Europe, Richard Hillman, noted in April that preparations for serial production are already underway.
