Additionally, modern German trains offer a high level of comfort with ample space for luggage and seating, Wi-Fi, and onboard catering services, making train travel pleasant and convenient.

Train travel is also considered a more environmentally friendly option compared to other forms of transportation, such as air travel, as it reduces CO2 emissions.

This is particularly relevant when many fans are traveling to a major sporting event like the European Championship!

Local and Long-Distance Transport in Germany

Local transport is geared towards short and medium distances within a region or metropolis. Local trains often make several intermediate stops and connect small towns, suburbs, and rural areas. They tend to be slower than long-distance trains and make more stops to allow passengers to get on and off.

Typical suburban trains include regional trains like the RegionalExpress (RE) and Regional Bahn (RB), as well as city rail trains that operate in many German cities.

On the other hand, long-distance transport covers longer routes, often between different cities or regions, and can also include international travel.

Long-distance trains run less frequently, make fewer intermediate stops, and are generally faster than local trains.

Major long-distance transport is carried out by high-speed trains such as the InterCityExpress (ICE) and EuroCity (EC), which offer high speed and comfort.

In summary, local transport is designed for shorter and regional trips with more intermediate stops, while intercity transport is intended for longer distances and faster connections between major cities and regions.
