ZTR telematics will be implemented on the GATX freight car fleet in North America
22.01.2024
The assembler and leasing company have signed an agreement for the installation of the PIVOT telematics solution, including geolocation, load sensors, position of hatch covers, doors, and handbrake, impact detection, and a gateway for real-time wagon status transmission, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
PIVOT will be integrated into the RailPulse telematics platform.
The aim is to enable carriers and shippers to reduce costs by optimizing the use of the wagon fleet.
The number of GATX’s 115,000 wagons planned to be equipped with PIVOT is not disclosed.
It’s worth noting that within the RailPulse joint venture, GATX, along with TrinityRail, Greenbrier, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Genesee & Wyoming, and Watco, is working on bringing its own telemetry system to the market, undergoing trials with sensors from ZTR, Nexxiot, and Hitachi Rail.
