Webuild wins a billion euro contract in Sicily
The Italian construction corporation Webuild has signed a contract for the construction of a railway on the island of Sicily in the amount of 1.003 billion euros. The agreement provides for the laying of new routes between the cities of Messina and Catania, reports railway magazine Railway Supply citing Railway News
The contract was concluded with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and will be carried out by Webuild in a consortium in which it will own 70% of the shares. Another partner will be Pizzarotti.

Webuild will construct a railway section on the approaches to the Brenner tunnel
The consortium will build a new railway line with a length of 28.3 km, including its electrification, signalization and communications. The contract also provides for the construction of 8 tunnels and 7 bridges, as well as passenger platforms.
Most of the new line will run in the mountains, farther from the seashore than the existing railway line.
