Wabtec has inaugurated its first 3D printing center in Europe

The additive manufacturing facility for rolling stock components is established at the Faiveley Transport facility in Saint-Pierre-de-Corps, France, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The equipment for the center was procured from Japanese company Nikon SLM Solutions. According to L’Usine Nouvelle, the project saw investments exceeding €2 million.

The center covers the entire technological process, from printing metal parts to quality testing and subsequent processing.
This technology allows for a 70% reduction in component production time and a 50-75% decrease in the weight of certain parts.
Production includes essential spare parts produced by Wabtec, as well as new products for pantographs, braking, door, and climate systems.
Wabtec currently operates several 3D printing centers in the United States and one in Bangalore, India.
The company aims to scale up additive manufacturing to 25,000 units by 2025.
