The government is progressing with Stage 2 of the South Dynon facility redevelopment, worth $210 million, which includes modern washing systems, refueling stations, and a new wastewater treatment plant to strengthen operational standards.

Stage 2 also adds an under-floor wheel lathe for V/Line trains, boosting maintenance precision and reducing downtime. This follows Stage 1, which delivered improved power, lighting, new tracks, and enhanced security earlier this year.

Victoria Boosts Efficiency with New Biowash Technology

The biowash facility marks a critical improvement, enabling five trains daily to undergo bio-cleaning after animal strikes. This reduces delays and keeps more trains ready for service, ensuring better reliability for passengers.

Previously, trains shared the standard wash bay for biowashing, which slowed operations. The new standalone system improves turnaround time significantly, allowing quicker return of V/Line trains to active routes after safety cleaning.

South Dynon, first opened in 1961, is now being modernized to support the growing VLocity fleet and rising passenger demand. The upgrade ensures the facility meets future needs and boosts network resilience.

The Victorian Budget 2025/26 allocates nearly $117.5 million for V/Line maintenance programs across the state, covering periodic upgrades to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient train services for regional communities.
