According to operational data, as of May 18, 195.8 km of tracks were repaired by the enterprises of the track facilities of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

Repair of railway tracks

It is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply.

The overhaul of the track using new materials (reconstruction of the track) was completed at 55.9 km, using old materials – 25.2 km. The average track repair was completed for 114.7 km.

In addition, 23 sets of railroad switches were technically re-equipped and another 132 sets were repaired.

According to UZ, for the period of martial law in 2022, the following plan was agreed:

major overhaul of the track using new materials with a volume of 131.6 km,
major overhaul using old materials – 24.86 km,
major overhaul of turnouts using new materials – 55 sets.

“In addition, in order to ensure the uninterrupted process of transportation from the regions, it was proposed to increase the volume of work on the overhaul of the track using new materials (reconstruction of the track) – 88.8 km, the overhaul of the track using old materials – 32.3 km and the overhaul of turnouts on 34 sets using old materials,” the press service of UZ reported.

At the same time, the company noted that due to the large-scale invasion and seizure of part of the country’s territory by the Russian Federation, it is impossible to carry out full track repairs, envisaged at the beginning of the year.

However, the track maintenance season was “started in 2022 on time”.

Capital work was carried out in strategic areas where military operations are not taking place.

Another problematic issue is the fact that due to the war, some manufacturers of components for track repair stopped working.

“Ukrzaliznytsia is monitoring the market to find new likely suppliers of the products it needs, which would ensure an uninterrupted process of track repairs,” the response to a request from journalists says.

As previously reported, UZ planned to upgrade about 1.5 thousand km of track in 2022. The start of the track maintenance period was scheduled for March 31.
