Uralvagonzavod develops an open-top wagon with a carrying capacity of 77 tons

Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) has begun work on a project to create a gondola car with a carrying capacity of up to 77 tons on the basis of a serially produced gondola car with unloading hatches 12-196-02. To date, a 3D-model of the wagon has been created, a set of preliminary regulatory calculations has been carried out, and drawings have been developed for layouts of the main body units for fatigue tests. This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the magazine “Technics of Railways”.

UVZ notes that about 90% of the entire metal body structure will be steel from high-strength grades (the grades themselves are not disclosed), which will reduce the tare weight to 23 tons. Thus, the carrying capacity of the wagon can grow up to 77 tons (+2 tons to the gondola car 12-196-02).

Another manufacturer of open-top wagons with an axial load of 25 tf – OVK – has a carrying capacity of 77 tons for a serial dead-bottom model of a gondola car 12-9869 (tare weight – 22.5 +/- 0.5 t). At the same time, the carrying capacity of 12-9853 series with unloading hatches is 75 tons (tare weight – 25 tons).

Recently, an enterprise from Nizhny Tagil announced the release of the 40,000th innovative wagon of 12-196-02 series. The information indicates that rolling stock on bogies with increased axle load account for approximately half of the plant’s order book. All in all, the production plan for UVZ is 15 thousand cars of all types.
