A tram line utilizing Niigata Transys rolling stock has been launched in Japan, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

This 14.6 km line with 19 stops connects the city of Utsunomiya to the village of Haga.

Korail Introduces ITX-Maum Electric Train by Dawonsys

Due to construction difficulties and tram derailing incidents, its opening was postponed twice and finally took place in November 2022.

It marks the first new tram system introduced in the country since 1948.

Along this line, 17 three-section trams of the HU300 “Lightline” model have started operating.

Their operational speed is 40 km/h, with plans to increase it to 70 km/h on special sections and 50 km/h on other parts of the route in the future.

Each tram can accommodate 180 passengers, including 50 seated passengers. The interior is designed to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers.

It’s noted that these trams are capable of handling slopes up to 67‰ and navigating curves with a radius of 25 meters. The body is made of steel with a reinforced fiber-plastic coating.

The trams were developed and produced in collaboration with Alstom. For instance, Alstom provided the bogies for these trams.
