A passenger train collided with an oncoming freight train in northern Greece between Athens and Thessaloniki. Four cars derailed, two of them burned down completely. The number of victims and wounded is increasing. Rescue services are on site. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Nakolei.

The accident happened after 23:00. 350 people were supposed to travel in the passenger train, 32 people were confirmed dead, more than 85 people were injured. According to the report, train drivers and a crew of conductors also died.

According to the Greek fire brigade, operations are currently focused on the first two carriages of the passenger train. According to eyewitnesses, the collision was so strong that some passengers flew out of the windows of the train.

The police must question two railroad workers who are allegedly responsible for diverting two trains onto the same track. According to media reports, no one has been arrested in the case so far.
