The volume of transportation of containers by the Russian Railways network has doubled in 5 years

In 2021, the Russian Railways network transported 6 million 502.5 thousand loaded and empty TEU containers in all types of traffic, which is 12.1% more than in 2020.
It is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Russian Railways.
The report notes that container traffic has doubled over the past five years.
2 million 467.9 thousand TEUs (+6.4%) were sent in domestic traffic last year, 1 million 556.4 thousand TEUs (+7.8%) in exports, and 1 million 392.3 in imports thousand TEUs (+13.6%), in transit – 1 million 76 thousand TEUs (+34.4%).

The number of loaded containers sent in all types of traffic increased by 16.6% and exceeded 4.6 million TEUs (more than 64.6 million tons of cargo were transported, + 14.9%).
The first place is occupied by chemicals and soda with 751.6 thousand TEUs (+7.3% compared to 2020), the second place is taken by timber cargoes with an indicator of 599.2 thousand TEUs (+10.9%). The third place are industrial goods with 504.7 thousand TEUs (+26.8%).
