The repair of TE33AS locomotives may involve Ukrainian manufacturers
17.12.2023
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to engage leading Ukrainian companies in the modernization of its rolling stock, primarily addressing the shortage of equipment for repairs to the mainline freight locomotives of the TE33AS series, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This topic was discussed at a meeting with specialized manufacturing enterprises held at one of the locomotive depots.
The first car of the Alstom Mark V SkyTrain has been dispatched for testing in Vancouver
The focus was on exploring the possibilities of establishing a concept for localizing the production of linear equipment and components for TE33AS locomotives in Ukraine.
Leading domestic companies also participated in the meeting.
According to Alexander Bogdanov, Acting Director of the Locomotive Department at Ukrzaliznytsia, the manufacturer of the locomotives has already supplied all the necessary units and components for the technical maintenance of this series.
However, Ukrzaliznytsia is considering the future and is exploring the possibility of localizing the production and repair of necessary equipment in Ukraine for the sustainable operation of these locomotives.
The meeting also extensively discussed the manufacturing of critical spare parts by Ukrainian companies, within the framework of import substitution, replacing those previously produced by Russia for mainline locomotives such as 2TE116, 2TE10, M62, operating on the railway network in Ukraine.
Meeting participants agreed to thoroughly examine all technical and production issues for each component, specific to the production profile, and exchange necessary information promptly for the implementation of the aforementioned concept.
As reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia is considering involving private enterprises in the repair of locomotives.
