The Polish plant Stadler enters the Eastern markets
15.11.2022
The Polish plant of the Swiss concern Stadler will build modern Flirt trains for the Azerbaijan Railways. Initially, the contract was to be carried out in Belarus, but Stadler is transferring its new projects from there. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rynek Kolejowy.
The war in Ukraine influenced our decision to limit production in Belarus, said Philipp Brunner, Head of Stadler Central Europe. – We are starting to transfer production for the eastern markets to Poland. This is definitely very good news for Poland. We regret that our plant in Minsk cannot work for customers, but in the current political situation this is not possible,” added Brunner, who was previously in charge of managing the Belarusian plant in Fanipol near Minsk.
Pesa Bydgoszcz revealed its high-speed train concept
In the second half of 2023, we will start building various types of Flirt trains for Azerbaijan in Siedlce. We have never produced rolling stock for this customer in Poland before, so I am very happy about it. Azerbaijan Railways is also satisfied with the transfer of production to Poland, Brunner added.
As far as is known, these will be 6-section diesel trains (one of the sections will contain only the engine) and electric trains for a total of 10 units. Stadler received this contract in 2021 as a continuation of the previous contract. Earlier, Azerbaijanis have already purchased 19 sleeping cars with the possibility of automatic gauge change and 9 double-deck multi-purpose cars from Stadler to service sinter lines in the Baku region.
