The Hong Kong MTR will introduce new trains

These modern trains will replace the first-generation outdated ones used since the line’s opening in 1985.

The operation of CRRC CR200J-C trains has commenced in China

Island will be the second line, after Kwun Tong, to operate the next-generation trains, promising higher comfort and reliability.

A contract for 93 trains, totaling HKD 6 billion, was signed with CSR Qingdao Sifang (a part of CRRC) in 2015.

The first trains were successfully deployed on the Kwun Tong line in November 2022, with 13 new units currently in operation.

MTR plans to replace the outdated train fleet on other lines like Tsuen Wan and Tseung Kwan O.

The new trains offer passenger amenities such as free zones, additional handrails, and ergonomic seating.

The carriages feature dynamic route maps, and special equipment monitors the train’s real-time status.

Big data analysis facilitates predictive maintenance, highlighting the technological advancement of the new trains.
