The Chinese company CRRC has achieved significant success in the development of contact-accumulator locomotives, which have successfully passed test in low-temperature conditions, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In January of this year, two prototypes of the FXD3H series shunting locomotives underwent testing in one of China’s coldest regions – Hulunbuir.

Lithium-ion batteries effectively operated at temperatures ranging from -30°C to -42°C for 24 hours, undergoing 10 test checks.

These 2.2 MW locomotives have been undergoing testing in various climatic zones of China since August 2023.

According to the manufacturer’s statement, they outperform similar shunting diesel locomotives by 10% in traction characteristics.

Furthermore, they are equipped with a battery condition monitoring system and have a modular design, allowing them to be standardized with other machines from the Fuxing platform, including the hybrid FXN3D.

CRRC has already introduced an initial batch of hybrid machines of the previous generation in 2022, and also released a four-axle locomotive CHA3C1 for a metallurgical plant in Nanjing in 2023.
