This launch marks a significant event for Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), which plans to put three more such diesel locomotives into operation soon.

The R200 series locomotives are based on the Eurodual family and have two driver’s cabs equipped with sound and thermal insulation, providing protection against extreme temperatures.

The primary purpose of these locomotives is to transport freight trains weighing up to 2000 tons on narrow-gauge lines with a track gauge of 1067 mm.

The maximum speed of the locomotives is 120 km/h, and the starting tractive effort reaches 430 kN. Each machine is equipped with Cummins engines with a power of 2 MW.

The contract between Stadler and TRA was signed in the fall of 2019 and amounts to €165 million.

Under the terms of the contract, Stadler is obligated to supply 34 diesel locomotives.

The first two locomotives arrived in Taiwan in July of last year. The rolling stock is manufactured at the Stadler plant in Valencia, Spain.

The introduction of these diesel locomotives is an important step in the modernization of Taiwan’s railway infrastructure.

The new locomotives will not only improve freight transport but also enhance the overall efficiency and reliability of railway transport on the island.

Thanks to their technical characteristics and modern solutions, the R200 locomotives will ensure more sustainable and safer operations, which is especially important for long-distance freight transport.

Moreover, the use of Stadler locomotives will allow TRA to reduce operating costs and increase competitiveness in the freight market.

The reliability and durability of these locomotives will be the key to the successful development of Taiwan’s railway network in the coming years.

Innovations in railway transport, such as the introduction of modern diesel locomotives, play a key role in the economic development of the region.

Modernization of Locomotives TGМ-4, TGМ-6 Series

Improving logistics and transport links promotes trade and industry growth, creates new jobs, and stimulates investment.

In this context, TRA’s cooperation with leading global railway equipment manufacturers such as Stadler represents a significant contribution to Taiwan’s future.

Thus, the first launch of the R200 series diesel locomotive from Stadler in Taiwan symbolizes the beginning of a new era in the history of Taiwan’s railways.

The introduction of modern technologies and innovative solutions into the transport infrastructure will help create a more efficient and sustainable transport system, which will positively impact the country’s economy and well-being.
