The company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has ordered a total of 73 new long-distance trains (ICE)
19.05.2023
The new deal with DB for 1.4 billion euros is the largest in Talgo’s history.
This represents an investment of approximately 2 billion euros and marks the second-largest one-time train purchase in the company’s history. Spanish manufacturer Talgo is the main beneficiary. This information is reported by Railway Supply magazine, citing RailTech.
Talgo is set to produce 56 low-floor ICE-L trains, while Siemens Mobility has been tasked with manufacturing an additional 17 ICE 3neo trains. The delivery of these new trains is scheduled to take place from 2026 to 2030. Talgo’s contract for the order is valued at 1.4 billion euros, while the purchase from Siemens amounts to 600 million euros.
DB initiated the ordering of ICE 3neo trains back in 2020, and the total number of trains purchased has reached 90. The first trains were put into operation in December 2022. It is expected that the final trains from the batch will be delivered by August 2028.
The initial framework agreement with Talgo was signed in 2019 for 29 ICE-L trains. They are scheduled for delivery in 2024, while the remaining 56 will be introduced throughout the current decade.
