The AI-powered digital vision system will be tested on the coastal tram line in Belgium – the longest in the world.
CAF Zeeliner trams will be equipped and tested with AI software and sensors.
They will assist drivers during operation by capturing everything around the tram, including traffic and pedestrians.
In case of dangerous situations, information will be transmitted to the drivers.
OTIV’s technology has been undergoing trials in Belgium since the summer of 2023.
In the first phase, the system evaluated various scenarios to improve drivers’ reaction times.
The new phase of the project means that CAF trams will receive a driver assistance system.
Belgian startup OTIV, founded in 2019, develops AI-based train control automation systems.
It has received funding from several venture capital funds from the Netherlands and Belgium.
