The reconstruction will cover 100 km of railway tracks, with contractors from third countries excluded from the project. This decision aligns with EU regulations aimed at enhancing quality and safety. PKP PLK’s CEO Piotr Wyborski emphasized that these measures are essential for the successful execution of such a large-scale investment.

Key Features of the Tender for the Modernization of the Białystok – Ełk Railway Line

After reconstruction, control of train operations on the line will be managed by the new Traffic Management Center in Białystok. The new platforms will meet modern standards and be fully accessible for people with reduced mobility.

How the Tender Will Improve Railway Infrastructure

Throughout the route, 20 road viaducts, 12 railway bridges, and 12 tunnels will be built. These improvements will eliminate delays for both trains and vehicles. Passenger trains will reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, while freight trains will operate at up to 120 km/h.

As a result of the modernization, the travel time between Białystok and Ełk will be reduced to 55 minutes. Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure highlighted that the project will improve the quality of life and provide convenient conditions for the region’s residents.

The project is funded through EU programs such as the Connecting Europe Facility, with completion expected by 2029. The modernization of Rail Baltica in Poland will enhance transportation links, reduce CO2 emissions, and attract investments.

This initiative will also serve as an eco-friendly alternative to road transport, improving conditions for passengers and businesses alike. Rail Baltica represents a major step toward sustainable transportation development in the region.
