Sydney Metro: Track Laying Progresses at Luddenham

The Sydney Metro – Western Sydney International Airport line is advancing rapidly. The first tracks have been laid at Luddenham, marking a key milestone in the project. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Track laying began north of a new rail bridge that will soon carry metro services over the planned M12 motorway. The next phase is progressing towards St. Marys, with further work on track installation.

By mid-2026, workers plan to install over 6,400 tonnes of rail steel along the 23km stretch from St. Marys to Bradfield. The final track will span nearly 107km and require 76,285 sleepers for full completion.
Progress on Sydney Metro Stations
In addition to track installation, work on six new stations has also commenced. Final design plans for each station have been completed and are ready for construction.
Construction Teams and Materials for Sydney Metro
A dedicated team of 60 workers is handling the rail steel installation. All steel components are sourced from South Australia. The steel is welded at a rail yard in Luddenham South and transported to its installation sites along the alignment.
The Western Sydney International Airport, an essential part of the region’s development, is scheduled to open in 2026, further enhancing local connectivity.
