Holcim Australia’s Foton electric truck, trialed successfully in the Pilbara region, now operates daily on the Byford Rail Extension. It marks the first deployment of its kind across Western Australia’s metro construction sites.

The truck reduces annual carbon dioxide emissions by 42 tonnes. Its electric engine also generates significantly less noise, improving conditions for both site workers and surrounding residents.

Green Milestone for Western Australia’s Metro Construction

This vehicle represents a key part of METRONET’s broader strategy to lower emissions on infrastructure projects. It supports eco-conscious development without compromising delivery timelines or material quality.

In addition to electric transport, the MetCONNX Alliance began using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in 2024. This fuel emits less carbon than traditional diesel while maintaining consistent performance.

Next-Gen Solutions Transform Western Australia’s Metro Build

The team also launched a pilot test of a HYDI unit. This add-on device retrofits to diesel engines, generating hydrogen on demand. The system, with a 20-year lifecycle, enhances fuel efficiency and lowers emissions.

Through each of these steps, the Byford Rail Extension sets a new standard in green construction. Western Australia now leads national efforts in building metro systems that prioritize both progress and environmental care.

As demand for infrastructure grows, integrating such innovations ensures projects remain future-ready and climate-conscious.
