These trains will serve the Rock Island line and will receive federal subsidies allocated since October 2023.

The agreement includes eight two-car trains, with the remainder available in three- or four-car configurations.

In accordance with the Buy America Act, the trains will be entirely built in the US and comply with Federal Railroad Administration standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

They will be adapted to Chicago’s harsh winter conditions, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and snow protection.

It is expected that the trains will be ready for use in the near future.

Stadler already has experience in the US, including the contact-battery train project for Caltrain in California, which also involves the development and testing of double-decker trains using batteries.

This project is scheduled to start operating in the fall of 2024.

Additionally, Stadler has received an order from the California Transportation Commission to build 10 FLIRT H2 trains powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

This reflects trust in the company and its innovative solutions in electric transportation.
