Stadler Unveils JK Train Series for Berlin Metro at InnoTrans 2024
28.09.2024
At InnoTrans 2024, Stadler presented a two-car train section of the JK series, specifically designed for the small-profile lines of the Berlin metro, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Stadler offers innovative solutions for various metro lines: JK trains with a body width of 2.4 meters are designed for small-profile lines, while the wider J series trains are intended for larger profiles.

The JK series trains can consist of two- or four-car sections, while the J series includes options of two, four, or six cars that can be formed from end and intermediate cars.
The unification of components between the two train types speeds up production, simplifies maintenance, and reduces the number of spare parts required.
The trains for Berlin are designed for a standard gauge of 1435 mm and are powered by a contact rail with 750 V DC voltage.
The maximum speed is 70 km/h. Lightweight aluminum bodies ensure the strength and stability of the cars.
A two-car train accommodates 22 seated and 118 standing passengers, while the four-car version accommodates 82 seated and 227 standing passengers.
Each car is equipped with two doors on each side, providing quick boarding and alighting. The length of the two-car train is 25,820 mm, and the four-car version is 51,640 mm. The bogies have a wheelbase of 1800 mm, and the wheel diameter ranges from 720 mm when new to 630 mm at maximum wear.
The minimum curve radius the trains can navigate is 50 meters.
Each two-car train is equipped with traction motors with a power of 540 kW, ensuring high dynamic performance.
In four-car configurations, the power doubles to 1080 kW. Under the agreement with BVG, Stadler is committed to delivering up to 1,500 cars, including 376 cars in the first order, and providing spare parts for 32 years.
The agreement allows Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe to enhance Berlin’s transport infrastructure, offering passengers modern and reliable trains.
