Stadler’s Technology and Equipment for Bergen

Stadler will implement track circuits and axle counters, along with on-board and trackside signaling systems. The project also includes train detection, signal lights, and switch point heaters.

The company will equip the operations control center with automated operator workstations, simulators, and a digital model of the entire tram network. Most of the systems will be manufactured at the Stadler facility in Braunschweig, Germany.

Stadler Modernizes the Bergen Bybanen Network

All supplied systems meet SIL 2 safety standards, with selected components certified to SIL 4. Installation is scheduled to begin in September 2025.

The Bergen Bybanen network currently spans 29 kilometers with 35 stops. The first line links the city center to the airport, while the second connects to Fyllingsdalen. Stadler previously supplied Variobahn trams and now maintains the network under contract with operator Tide Buss og Bane.

The expansion aims to improve transportation access in the city’s growing areas. The signaling and control systems provided by Stadler will enhance safety, operational efficiency, and long-term passenger comfort.
