Stadler to Deliver New Trains for Arlanda Airport Line

Stadler will deliver seven FLIRT trains for the route between Stockholm and Arlanda Airport, replacing the current fleet and increasing total passenger capacity by over 50%. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Stadler signed a contract with Swedish operator A-Train to supply seven FLIRT units, with an option for an additional train.

Production is scheduled to begin in late 2026. The new trains will start service at the end of 2029, replacing trains in use since 1999.
The total contract is valued at approximately $405 million, including 15 years of maintenance. The trains will be customized to withstand Swedish weather and meet specific interior requirements set by A-Train.
Stadler trains will boost comfort and route capacity
Each 165-meter train will feature 323 seats and accommodate up to 650 standing passengers. Car width is 3,200 mm, height 4,380 mm, and door width 1,100 mm.
Boarding will be step-free from platforms with heights of 760 and 1,150 mm. Dedicated spaces will be available for wheelchairs and large luggage.
The trains will operate on 15 kV, 16.7 Hz overhead power. Maximum speed reaches 200 km/h, with acceleration of 0.77 m/s² under full load.
Each unit weighs 342 tons, delivers a maximum tractive effort of 320 kN, and provides 4,000 kW continuous and up to 6,400 kW peak power.
This rolling stock upgrade will enhance passenger experience and improve energy efficiency. Stadler continues to expand its presence in the Scandinavian market.
