DB Regio secured the transport contract through 2043, reinforcing its role in sustainable regional mobility. The new battery-electric units support Germany’s commitment to lowering emissions in public transportation.

Christine Singer, DB Regio Südost Chairwoman, emphasized the importance of the project. She said the modern, accessible trains would significantly contribute to the mobility transition across the region.

Passenger Comfort and Design by Stadler

Each FLIRT Akku train from Stadler includes 160 seats and offers space for bicycles, wheelchairs, and pushchairs. Passengers benefit from Wi-Fi, electronic displays, and onboard surveillance for safety.

The trains feature barrier-free access and interior layouts designed for all users. This combination of technology and accessibility reflects the latest in inclusive mobility standards.

A consistent visual identity will debut with this fleet. Interior and exterior designs will match across future Thuringian trains, creating a cohesive appearance for regional services.

Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Division Germany, expressed enthusiasm about the project. He confirmed that Stadler is proud to lead the green mobility initiative in the heart of Germany.

Thuringia’s investment in battery-electric rail marks a major step forward in eco-friendly infrastructure. The new fleet sets a standard for other German regions aiming to modernize their rail systems sustainably.
