Stadler, a Swiss manufacturer of railway and tram technology, has completed the modernization of the first high-floor tram for the German city of Bochum, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Modernization of High-Floor Tram

This two-section tram model B80D, originally built by the German company Duewag back in 1988, underwent significant changes at the Berlin plant.

It received a new body, a fully renovated interior with multifunctional platforms, as well as new doors and a driver’s cab.

Some works, such as repairing bogies and electrical equipment components, were carried out by the local public transport operator Bogestra.

Currently, the modernized tram, named B80-Neo, is undergoing commissioning works at the depot.

It is planned that after completing the tests and trials, it will commence operation in autumn.

The first and second modernized units will be combined into a multiple unit system. This will increase efficiency and passenger comfort.

Modernization of High-Floor Tram

Stadler has already signed a contract with the city in 2019 to supply six new TANGO model trams.

Over the next four years, the company also plans to modernize the entire fleet of B80D trams, including 25 units.

This demonstrates Stadler’s commitment to improving public transport and enhancing its infrastructure in European cities.
