Stadler Launches Modern Trains on Newcastle Metro Network for Improved Passenger Experience

Nexus has introduced the first Stadler Class 555 train on the Newcastle Metro network. Over the next few months, 12 more modern trains are expected to enter service. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Initially, the launch was scheduled for summer 2023, but it was delayed several times. Additional safety tests became necessary to ensure performance and reliability during operations.
Modern Stadler Trains Offer Comfort and Efficiency
The Class 555 trains feature a battery-electric system, accommodating 600 passengers and offering 116 seated spaces. They also include areas for bicycles and designated spaces for wheelchair users.

These trains reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h, ensuring fast and reliable transportation services. In case of a power failure, the batteries allow operations for up to 45 minutes.
Stadler plans to deliver the remaining 33 trains between 2025 and 2026 as scheduled. The contract, valued at over €820 million, covers 35 years of maintenance and depot construction.
