Siemens Mobility Expands Sustainable Rail Technologies

It operates on overhead catenary wires where available, and automatically switches to battery mode in catenary-free zones like tunnels or stations. This enables smooth, emission-free operations across partially electrified networks.

Andre Rodenbeck, CEO of Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, said the company is committed to offering reliable, forward-thinking propulsion solutions. By expanding their technology range, they help rail operators invest in cleaner, long-term mobility strategies.

The Charger B+AC can power trains at speeds of up to 125 mph under catenary and run up to 100 miles on battery, depending on train configuration and route. This ensures operators don’t sacrifice speed or distance for sustainability.

Siemens Mobility Supports U.S. Manufacturing and Innovation

Manufactured entirely in the United States, the locomotive supports domestic jobs and meets Buy America requirements. It features multiple charging options, including catenary, plug-in, and dynamic braking systems.

The first confirmed order comes from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Metro-North Railroad in New York. They plan to use 13 of these locomotives in their upcoming passenger fleet expansion.

With the Charger B+AC, Siemens Mobility delivers innovation tailored to modern rail demands—combining cleaner energy with performance and flexibility for North American transit systems.
