A propaganda material was recently published in one of the Russian railway online publications, in which JSC Ukrzaliznytsia is assigned the role of the railway of Armenia, which has become completely dependent on Russian Railways, reports Rail.insider.

«Ukrainian railways can expect formatting according to the Armenian scenario. Let us remind you that in Armenia, the local railway is operated by the subsidiary of Russian Railways OJSC Armenian Railways (actually, South Caucasian Railways CJSC, – ed.). It is unlikely that a subsidiary of Russian Railways (!!!) will be organized in Ukraine, it is difficult to imagine that the Russian railway monopolist would be framed under furious sanctions. But it is quite possible to imagine the current UZ as a kind of legal entity under full Russian control,” the newspaper writes.


The article also states that “the level of damage to railway junctions and infrastructure from the use of weapons can currently be considered insignificant (!!!)”. “This fact once again demonstrates that the RF Armed Forces, when conducting a special operation, strive not to harm civilian objects (!!!), or even dual-use objects, which include the railway, realizing that the life of the civilian population depends on their functioning,” notes the Russian media (!!!).

This is an outright lie! Ukrzaliznytsia has repeatedly reported damage to railway depots, stations, railway stations and rolling stock as a result of air strikes and artillery shelling by units of the occupying forces!

The South Caucasian Railway (SCR) is a 100% subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways. The corresponding concession agreement was signed in 2008. Its management term is 30 years.

It should be noted that, despite the promises from the Russian Railways to develop the Armenian railway, it is in a deplorable state. For example, in 2021, 3 million 124 thousand tons were transported, which is 2.4% less than the same indicator of the previous year!!!

A lot of unrealized infrastructure projects have accumulated on the railway, traction rolling stock needs to be updated, scandals arise over financial abuses.

In addition, the Russian Federation uses the enterprise as a customer for Russian-made passenger electric trains.

Local media also report discrimination on the SCR based on ethnicity. Namely, that “the management of the railway accepts citizens of the Russian Federation for responsible positions, and Armenian specialists receive incomparably less than Russian ones, who are given astronomical salaries.”
