Chairman Richard “Quijas” Brunk stated that the time was right to reinforce public support. He credited local leaders, transportation agencies, and business groups for maintaining long-term advocacy over the past 15 years.

Their goal remains clear: connect the Quad Cities with Chicago to boost economic development and increase mobility. Brunk emphasized that collaboration has positioned the region to take advantage of this critical moment.

Chicago-to-Moline Rail Project Gains Political Momentum

Board Member Porter McNeil highlighted benefits beyond transportation. He noted that the Chicago-to-Moline connection could revitalize tourism, support business ventures, and ensure accessible, affordable travel options for all residents.

Last week, Illinois Acting Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi encouraged leaders to endorse the investment publicly. She reaffirmed the state’s commitment during the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal’s infrastructure seminar.

In March, Moline officials hosted a press conference warning that federal funding for the line will expire in 2026. Urgency now drives local efforts to accelerate the planning phase.

State Senator Mike Halpin, Representative Gregg Johnson, and Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati offered three development scenarios. All focus on aligning city, state, and federal coordination to keep the project viable.

The region stands at a pivotal moment. With unified support and strategic action, the Chicago-to-Moline rail project can shift from promise to progress.
