Reconstruction of the railway infrastructure at Riga Central Station is planned to begin at the end of March 2021. The work will be carried out in three stages, which will ensure the accessibility of the station building for visitors, as well as the absence of travel restrictions.

Changes to the train schedule are to take effect from 28 March.

As a result of the reconstruction in 2026, 14 tracks will be opened for train traffic, 4 of which will be Rail Baltica tracks with a track gauge of 1435 mm.

Despite the fact that the railway station will expand and change its appearance, it is planned to preserve its historical features – the inscription “Riga”, separate wooden doors, as well as marble stairs.
