The American locomotive manufacturer, Progress Rail, has sent the first batch of its six-axle GT46C-ACe Gen II locomotives to Australia, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Specifically designed for Australian conditions, these locomotives are equipped with powerful 16-cylinder engines that meet the latest Tier 3 environmental standards.

These railway giants are intended to operate heavy trains, transporting goods between Melbourne and Sydney.
The customer, transport and logistics company Qube, is already preparing to receive the new locomotives.
The contract for the delivery of 12 such locomotives at the end of 2022 was a significant step in the development of the country’s railway infrastructure.
It is worth noting that this is not Qube’s first experience in collaborating with locomotive manufacturers.
Previously, the company acquired 20 C44aci locomotives from the local manufacturer UGL for transporting steel between Melbourne and Sydney.
The last locomotive of this batch was put into operation last year, highlighting the successful implementation of new technologies and transportation vehicles into the Australian infrastructure.
The new batch of locomotives from Progress Rail will provide reliable support for the Australian railway, ensuring more efficient and environmentally friendly freight transportation across the country.
