PRM Engineering Services Launches Safer Machinery Control
29.07.2025
PRM Engineering Services has unveiled a next-generation Sentinel Height and Slew Limiting System to boost safety for machines working near rail lines, tunnels, and high-risk infrastructure. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The enhanced system now features predictive and slow-stop capabilities that prevent sudden jolts and mechanical stress. Angle sensors measure boom position in real-time, helping operators remain within safe operating zones. Visual and audible alerts activate automatically as limits approach.

Operators benefit from smoother control because the system decelerates gradually rather than halting abruptly. This reduces bucket spillage and equipment wear while enhancing operational safety. The system considers movement speed to stop precisely at the predefined limits.

Improved control options from PRM Engineering Services
Supervisors can lock in height restrictions using a key switch and password. Rail operators like Aurizon and Queensland Rail apply strict limits, usually between 3 and 3.4 meters. PRM Engineering Services makes it easy to enforce those rules by locking out unauthorized changes.
Operators can also select individual settings for each machine arm or attachment. This flexibility boosts efficiency for complex tasks and ensures precision when switching tools. The interface adjusts limits automatically, which saves time during changeovers.
To support energy efficiency, the system includes a safety lock input that reduces power consumption when idle. A built-in black box records every limit breach, system activation, and operator modification for full traceability and compliance reporting.
PRM Engineering Services delivers Australian-built reliability
Manufactured in Australia, the Sentinel system is built to withstand extreme worksite conditions. It features durable materials, five-millimeter steel sensor shields, and industry-standard screens. These improvements increase resilience in outdoor and high-impact settings.
The SIL 2/PLd-certified version meets stringent international safety standards. Dual sensors provide failover protection and ensure that the system reacts instantly to any fault. If one sensor fails, the system halts movement and prevents exposure to high-risk situations.
Because rail power lines carry deadly voltage, reliable equipment is essential. PRM Engineering Services has engineered redundancy into every layer of Sentinel. This reduces operator error, protects workers, and maintains operational safety in the most hazardous environments.
