Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Lyon in France will be connected to the Port of Barcelona in Spain by rail starting from early November, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.

This new service by Maersk will serve as an alternative to sea connections with French Mediterranean ports and Northern European ports.

The goal is to reduce transit times between these destinations by twelve days.

The route between Barcelona and Toulouse will feature three round trips per week, and between Barcelona and Lyon, there will be one. Bordeaux won’t have a direct connection but will be served through Toulouse.

Maersk explained that they will expand their services in Spain with facilities in Zaragoza and Tarragona.

The operator of this new service will be Maersk-owned APM Spain Railways in collaboration with Captrain and Naviland Cargo.

One of the key features of this rail connection is its border-crossing efficiency.

Interoperable locomotives used by the partners will be crucial as they save time at the Spanish-French border since there’s no need to change locomotives or wheelsets.
