22.06.2024
Opole Voivodeship in Poland has embarked on an ambitious project to modernize its railway transport, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The government has announced a tender for the purchase of new electric trains aimed at improving passenger transport in the region.

According to the competition terms, up to 20 modern train sets are planned to be acquired, including five firm orders.
Among them, three trains are specified to be three-section and two to be four-section.
In addition to the main order, there is an option for an additional 11 three-section and four four-section train sets.
All trains will accommodate between 320 and 400 passengers and will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The project also includes a mandatory service life of 30 years for the train sets.
The delivery timeline for the order is 4 years, allowing for phased introduction of new equipment and modernization of the region’s railway infrastructure.
State funding will be utilized to finance this large-scale project under the new regional program “European Funds for Opole Voivodeship for 2021-2027.”
This underscores the European Union’s support for modern transportation initiatives.
The need for rolling stock renewal is becoming pressing for many regions in Poland, as evidenced by similar projects in other voivodeships of the country.
For instance, in April 2024, Pomeranian Voivodeship successfully exercised an option to purchase 9 Impuls2 electric trains from Newag, also with support from EU funds.
The modernization of railway transport not only enhances passenger comfort and safety but also contributes to reducing environmental impact through the use of advanced energy-efficient technologies.
Thus, the implementation of the project to supply new electric trains in Opole Voivodeship represents a significant step towards modernizing infrastructure and improving regional transport accessibility.
