Poland Opens Terminal with Broad and Narrow Gauges
22.09.2023
Last week, the logistics operator Treeden Group put into operation the first phase of a freight railway terminal in the village of Volya Baranovska (Poland), which will also function as a customs warehouse, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
This was reported by the director of the company UAB Friendly Avia Support, Alexander Lanetsky.
“Located nearly 200 kilometers deep into Poland, the unique Volya Baranovska station has both broad gauge (from Ukraine) and narrow gauge. This allows connecting Polish ports with the Ukrainian railway system as well as Western European, Polish, German, and Baltic ports,” noted the director.

Alexander Lanetsky also mentioned that the new terminal is capable of simultaneously handling the unloading/loading of three full trains.
An automated loading and unloading system will significantly expedite cargo transfer operations, reducing time by 3-5 times compared to regular yards nearby.
The terminal is equipped with five silos, each with a capacity of 4,000 tons, an automated floor storage warehouse, including bulk cargo on an area of 4,500 square meters, and an open area for storing maritime containers. The terminal can handle grain, construction materials, fertilizers, and other goods,” added the specialist.
The project had a cost of several tens of million euros and was realized by a Polish private investor with support from EU funds.
It was initiated in 2016, but it took over five years to coordinate details with the Polish State Railways, and an additional year for official project approval and construction permits.
The construction of the terminal itself took less than 10 months.
