PKP Intercity has received proposals for the purchase of 300 new carriages
14.11.2023
The long-awaited unveiling of tender proposals for the acquisition of 300 new carriages has taken place. PKP Intercity must now choose a contractor for the project, this information was reported by Railway Supplymagazine, citing Raport Kolejowy.
Today, PKP Intercity revealed the proposals for the tender announced in November 2022.
«Quantum» – a service for expedited multimodal transportation
The idea involves acquiring 300 new carriages with an option to order an additional 150 units. Notably, this order is on the verge of becoming the largest contract in PKP Intercity’s history for the purchase of new carriages.
The entire tender has been divided into 7 parts, each pertaining to the production of different types of carriages based on their class and adaptation.
Proposals for individual parts of the tender include:
– Part 1, comprising the delivery of 38 1st-class compartments with a separate non-compartmentalized section, received a bid from H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych for 518,814,000 PLN. PKP IC’s evaluation is 351,484,000 PLN.
– Part 2, involving the supply of 40 2nd-class compartments, received bids from Newag (730,128,000 PLN) and FPS (563,340,000 PLN). PKP IC’s evaluation is 374,904,000 PLN.
– Part 3, for the delivery of 80 non-compartmentalized 2nd-class carriages, received proposals from Newag (1,438,608,000 PLN) and FPS (1,003,680,000 PLN). PKP Intercity evaluated this part at 735,048,000 PLN.
– Part 4, supplying 38 non-compartmentalized 2nd-class carriages adapted for people with disabilities, received bids from Newag (712,785,000 PLN) and FPS (593,598,000 PLN). PKP Intercity’s evaluation is 356,158,800 PLN.
– Part 5, delivering 40 non-compartmentalized 2nd-class carriages adapted for transporting bicycles, saw competition between NEWAG (729,144 million PLN) and FPS (521,520,000 PLN). PKP Intercity’s evaluation is 372,198,000 PLN.
Two ES1000 battery locomotives have been sent to Romania
– Part 6, for the supply of 38 restaurant carriages, received only an offer from FPS for 612,294,000 PLN. PKP IC’s evaluation was 398,224,800 PLN.
– In the last part of the tender, PKP Intercity plans to purchase 26 day and night carriages. The Rail Vehicle Factory was the sole interested party, offering to carry out the work for 425,334 million PLN. The customer plans to allocate 256,479,600 PLN for the contract.
All acquired carriages must undergo homologation for operation at speeds of 200 km/h.
The vehicles must be approved for operation on the railway networks of the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, and Lithuania.
The tender also includes a three-level verification process.
Additionally, if PKP Intercity exercises the option, it can expand the supply of specific rolling stock categories with additional units from 13 to 40.
According to PKP Intercity, the carriages acquired under this tender are expected to introduce new standards and innovative directions in the design of rolling stock in Poland.
The innovative approach covers both visual and technical aspects. During the Trako fair, the intercity carrier presented a model of a compartment carriage, intended to be a symbol of the new approach to railway design.
Another novelty will be day-night carriages with sleeping compartment features.
A notable solution optimizing the use of rolling stock will be the day and night carriages. The same carriage, as a ‘day’ [with seats – ed.] can depart, for example, from Przemysl to Ustka in the morning and return at night as a ‘sleeper,’ as explained by Marek Hranycz, President of PKP Intercity, last year.
