Opening of Elevated Metro Line with Automated Trains
07.09.2023
Indonesia has inaugurated an elevated metro line with automated trains by the local company PT INKA, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
Last week in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, a 42.1-kilometer-long elevated metro line with 18 stations equipped with platform screen doors was launched.
“Yes! I can do it too! I can run too!”
This line is now served by a fleet of 12 six-car trains (with a total of 32 planned) equipped with Siemens GoA3-level automation systems, allowing for driverless operation with a driver present in the cabin.
Each train can accommodate up to 1,308 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
However, during the first week of operation, local media reported increased intervals of up to 20 minutes, door malfunctions, and sudden power outages.
In August, concerns were raised by Kartiko Virgoatmodjo, the Deputy Minister for State-Owned Enterprises Oversight, regarding discrepancies in train specifications and Siemens’ software. Siemens denied these allegations.
A meeting is scheduled in the near future to address and prevent further issues, involving the line operator, PT INKA, and Siemens.
