ÖBB Rail Cargo Group transported 580,000 tons of grain from Ukraine

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has transported 580,000 tons of grain from Ukraine since March 2022. More than 145,000 tons were transported in August alone, reports Railway Supply citing Rail UK.

RCG has offered its transport and logistics services to Ukraine since the beginning of the war with Russia. The Group moves grain out of Ukraine with all available resources to secure money and storage space for the next planting and harvest.
Due to the geographic location of the grain processing companies, most of the shipments in August were sent to Hungary, followed by Germany, Italy and Romania, as well as the Netherlands. On this route, RCG grain carriers cross four borders: the Ukrainian-Slovak border through Chop, the Hungarian-Ukrainian border through Zakhony, the Ukrainian-Romanian border through Reni, and the Ukrainian-Polish border through Chyriw.

RCG expects demand to remain at current levels over the coming months. To speed up grain exports, cooperation with Ukrzaliznytsia will be developed. The creation of a permanent bilateral working group was approved at the end of August 2022. At the same time, operations such as data exchange and processes between partners will be optimized.
The online agricultural platform GrainLane, developed by Rail Cargo Group together with an IT partner, has been connecting Ukrainian farmers with retailers, consumers and logistics service providers since 2022. There are currently over 1,000 registered users selling over 200,000 tons of grain, soybeans and dry corn.
Parties interested in agricultural products can discuss the details individually with the sellers, and GrainLane further supports them with transport offers through RCG partner networks. Thus, Ukrainian producers can establish new business relationships with international clients such as factories, traders, exporters and create a basis for increasing exports by land.
RCG makes GrainLane free for all market participants at www.grain-lane.com, thus providing another important contribution to grain exports from Ukraine.
