NJ Transit Strike Draws Federal Mediator Back to the Table
The National Mediation Board will rejoin talks on Sunday. Haas said engineers want to return to work and serve the public, reinforcing their commitment to a fair agreement.
Roughly 450 engineers and trainees began striking Friday, marking NJ Transit’s first rail strike since 1983. The union demands better wages and improved working conditions.
Despite disruptions, the tone of discussions has shifted. Both leaders say they’re about 95% aligned, but reaching a final deal hinges on solving the last few complex matters.
More negotiations are expected Sunday. The public awaits a resolution that can restore normal NJ Transit service and ease the region’s commuter burden.
