The reports show that transit demand keeps rising despite in-office work attendance remaining at just 52%. This shift confirms that riders rely on transit for far more than commuting.

APTA President and CEO Paul Skoutelas emphasized that buses, rail, and subways now serve broader needs. These include trips to schools, hospitals, and cultural venues in every region.

APTA Calls for Federal Support and Investment

Skoutelas urged policymakers to treat transit as essential infrastructure, not just a convenience. Reliable funding ensures equitable access, lower emissions, and strong local economies.

He also pointed out the role of modern infrastructure and clean energy in the sector’s future. As agencies adopt new technologies, they meet evolving mobility needs while reducing environmental impact.

APTA’s findings reflect how urban travel habits have changed. The growing demand proves public transportation plays a vital role in post-pandemic life.
