The replica, measuring 22 meters, displays the train passenger spaces and interior. The interior features light colors and variable lighting. At the same time, trains will be fitted with USB-C ports, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and windows optimized for cellular connectivity.

Passenger Comfort and Innovations for S-Bahn Munich

Separate spaces are designated for strollers, cycles, and wheelchairs. The novelty, however, is five multi-purpose spaces on each of the 13-carriage trains, able to carry up to 1,820 passengers. They consist of 80 foldable locking seats that adapt according to passenger flows on peaks or off-peak hours.

Station entrance signs for orientation shall be colored individually for every S-Bahn line. In such a manner, passengers will more easily be able to find their way around at stations. In addition, there will be 168 information displays per trainset.

Technical Features and Digital Systems of S-Bahn Munich

The trains can achieve speeds of 160 km/h. They will be equipped with ETCS, ATO, and TIMS systems for the purpose of safe running. Also, Siemens will implement its platform of Railigent X, enabling predictive maintenance and monitoring on a real-time basis.

When would Siemens and DB unveil the new trains?

As per the contract, the initial units will begin passenger operation in late 2028. Testing and preparation of the infrastructure will carry on until then.
