09.05.2025
Sydney is preparing to launch the GreenWay, a 6km car-free corridor that will connect Cooks River to Iron Cove, supporting active and sustainable transport. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Expected to open in late 2025, the $60 million project follows a historic rail corridor and will link two major waterside paths in Sydney’s inner west.

The future route will align with the new south-west Metro line, due in 2026, creating a modern network for cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users.
Sydney’s GreenWay Project to Reshape Urban Mobility
NSW Premier Chris Minns said the planned corridor would connect neighborhoods while promoting healthy, eco-friendly travel habits. He sees it as a vital step toward reducing car dependence in urban areas.
Planned construction includes underpasses beneath major roads like New Canterbury Road and development of the Hercules parklands, ensuring continuous, safe access along the corridor.
Green Corridor to Offer Culture, Nature, and Connectivity in Sydney
Local MP Jo Haylen emphasized the project’s potential to improve Metro access from Dulwich Hill and enhance north-south mobility across the inner west.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne called it a long-awaited community vision. Once completed, he believes it will serve students, families, and tourists as a cultural and recreational landmark.
Officials plan to install ten large-scale public artworks along the route, making the GreenWay a unique space for both transit and culture. The high-frequency Metro line will further enhance urban connectivity when launched.
Sydney’s broader strategy involves increasing housing density around public transport. Leaders hope this corridor will mirror global examples from cities like Paris and Barcelona, offering livable, walkable communities.
With construction underway and completion set for 2025, Sydney is positioning itself to deliver a bold new model for sustainable urban development.
