Rio Tinto Taps MLG Oz for Key Iron Ore Services

This contract marks MLG Oz’s first formal partnership with Rio Tinto, opening the door for future opportunities in one of Australia’s most resource-rich regions.

MLG plans to maximize efficiencies through its hub-and-spoke delivery model, designed to reduce costs while ensuring consistent service.

Managing Director Murray Leahy said Rio had thoroughly assessed MLG’s capabilities before awarding the contract. He emphasized that the deal reflects confidence in the company’s operational model.

“As a proud Western Australian business, we’re pleased to extend our reach beyond the WA goldfields,” Leahy said. “Partnering with Rio also validates our long-term growth ambitions.”

Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Presence Strengthens Local Partnerships

The Western Turner Syncline mine is one of 17 iron ore assets operated by Rio Tinto across Pilbara. The site’s phase two expansion began in 2020, helping to sustain jobs at the Greater Tom Price hub.

Rio’s network includes nearly 2,000km of rail lines and four independent port terminals, creating a seamless logistics chain for global ore delivery.

By joining Rio’s supplier base, MLG Oz enhances its market presence while contributing to local economic development in Western Australia.
